Chair of the Organised Crime Task Force, Paul Goggins MP has congratulated the law enforcement agencies involved in the seizure of six and a half million cigarettes earlier this week.
The joint operation at Belfast Docks involving the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and the newly formed UK Border Agency (UKBA) resulted in the significant seizure.
OCTF chairman Paul Goggins said:
"A seizure of this size is good news for those involved in the fight against organised crime and sends out a clear message that all the law enforcement agencies are working together to disrupt, dismantle and strip criminals of their assets."
The Minister also congratulated HMRC on their successful court case this week which resulted in the first serious Crime Prevention Orders being imposed in the UK.
