Police and law enforcement colleagues have seized an estimated £2million worth of cannabis and arrested four men in an ongoing international operation against drugs supply.
Three men have been arrested in Greece and one man has been arrested in Northern Ireland.
Herbal cannabis worth an estimated £2m has been seized in Greece – 100 kilos from a lorry and a further 100 kilos from a warehouse.
The driver of the lorry, a 36 year old man from Northern Ireland, has been arrested. Two other men, both Greek nationals, were detained in Greece. A fourth man, aged 34, has been arrested in Northern Ireland.
This was a multi-agency operation led by the Police Service of Northern Ireland which included colleagues in An Garda Siochana, the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Europol and law enforcement agencies in Greece.
A number of searches have also been conducted in Northern Ireland and the Republic and a number of items have been removed for examination.
Speaking at a cross-border conference on organised crime, PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott said: “The timing of these seizures and arrests is purely coincidental with today’s conference but none the less welcome. They are the result of much hard work by colleagues in a range of partner agencies and provide tangible demonstration of how partnership delivers results, making communities safer and creating a hostile environment for organised criminals, whatever the jurisdiction.”
